Influences of Nursing Professionalism, Moral Sensitivity, and Critical Thinking Disposition on the Moral Courage of Nursing Students

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influences of nursing professionalism, moral sensitivity, and critical thinking disposition on the moral courage of nursing students.
Methods: The subject included 200 nursing students from two universities located in D city of South Korea. Data were collected from June 18 to 26, 2018 by using self-reported questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson¡¯s correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression analysis using the IBM SPSS 25.0 program.
Results: The factors which influenced the moral courage in nursing students were moral sensitivity (¥â=.35, p<.001), critical thinking disposition (¥â=.25, p=.001), and neutral satisfaction on nursing major (¥â=-.16, p=.008). This model had 32.6% explanation of moral courage of nursing students.
Conclusion: These results suggest that to improve moral courage in nursing students, an intervention that enhances their moral sensitivity, critical thinking, and satisfaction on nursing major should be considered.
